Hi, my name is Lenell. (Or, Janet Lenell -- but my friends call me Lenell.) I am a 7th grader in the Atlanta area. I’ve been appointed to be a Student Ambassador to Australia. My tour starts in July 2012, and I have a lot to do to get there … and back.

The reasons why I want to be a PTP Student Ambassador: ➢ So I can meet new people; ➢ Go to new places; ➢ Be independent; ➢ Try new things; ➢ Learn to live on my own; and ➢ Earn trust to go more places with my friends.

People to People

Founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, People to People was based on his vision of a diplomatic alternative to war. He believed that if ordinary citizens of different countries got to know each other, it would help establish understanding, friendship and lasting peace.

Today, People to People International is in 135 countries. PTPI Student Ambassador programs enable youth ages 13-18 to take action locally and globally through educational, cultural and humanitarian activities.

A Boomerang Tour

Other student ambassadors and I will do a community service project, meet government officials, visit with the Aborigines and stay in the homes of local families. We’ll also have close, personal encounters with koalas and ‘roos. Along the way we’ll see primitive cave drawings and the Great Barrier Reef. We’ll travel some 6,000 miles in 17 days, meeting people from Sydney, to Canberra, to Darwin, to Cairns, in the Outback and finally back to Sydney.

Assist an Ambassador (PLEASE HELP!)

By the time I get back home I will have met lots of people across 24,570 miles, and spent over $9,000. I’m working and saving money to cover the costs. With the help of family and friends, I’ve already met my initial goals.

I could use your help, too. Please consider hiring me to babysit, walk your dog or other errands. Or, make a donation.
